Woman Charged With Assaulting Companion
|
A Lawrenceburg woman was taken into police custody Monday evening after she allegedly assaulted her companion while he was sleeping.
The victim, age 59, reported to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department that he had been in bed, asleep around 9:00 p.m. when he was assaulted.
He told officers that he awoke to find his companion, Misty Mechelle Smith, 41, of 117 Debus Street, atop him, strangling and scratching him. The victim said that when he tried to stand up Smith pushed him across a table.
Officers found that the victim had sustained scratches on the right side of his neck, and report finding blood on a pillow case. When they confronted Smith at a local motel, they report that she had blood on some of the fingers of her left hand.
She told them that she had been “passed out” because she had taken Xanax earlier. When questioned, Smith said she had no idea how the victim had sustained the injury to his neck.
Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. She was booked on a charge of aggravated domestic assault and jailed under a $25,000 bond.
Smith is slated to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on October 3, 2013.
